Lithuanian, Turkish Presidents and US Secretary of State congratulate Georgia on Independence Day


Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Georgia on Independence Day.

Nauseda tweeted that “Lithuania supports your aspiration to build a democratic, prosperous and secure European state!”

Erdonan expressed the hope in his letter that “friendly relations and close cooperation” between Turkey and Georgia will continue in the future.

He welcomed the planned visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Turkey on June 1.

Blinken said the United States and Georgia “enjoy a strategic partnership based on shared values.”

In the coming year, we hope to support Georgia in its efforts to strengthen democratic processes, create a more independent judiciary and foster a fully engaged parliament. We will continue to support the Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Georgian people, as well as their efforts to advance democratic and economic development as they recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spirit of our ongoing cooperation, we wish you a happy independence day! Bliken said.

He said the United States “is proud” to support Georgia’s efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities, and “we appreciate its contribution to NATO’s mission in Afghanistan.”
